Karaoke has become quite popular over the last 5 years since Carolyne Nderitu started it at Carwash way back in 2011. She now hosts several nights a week at different venues with a team.

Tuesdays: 514 (in Kisimenti) with Jessica Mj Cullen and Alex Ndahiro
Wednesdays: Karaoke is back at Car Wash with Carolyn

We are one year old!

It has been a year of intensive learning by serving this beautiful community and especially entrepreneurs!

We are taking this opportunity to celebrate with with the community this considerable milestone at this month’s Social Enterprise Happy Hour.

SocEnt Happy Hours are the first prime, monthly networking meetup of entrepreneurs and active entrepreneurship service providers in Rwanda. In an informal setting, the end goal is to identify the gaps in the ecosystem and collectively find solutions to challenges that entrepreneurs face.

The keynote speaker is the Minister of Trade and Industry in Rwanda, Francois Kanimba.

Happening every first Wednesdays of the month, this is a collaboration between Impact Hub Kigali and One Acre Fund, that sponsors the first 50 drinks!

Berlin 2011: Old friends from the GDR reunite at the funeral of Denis Paraceck, a.k.a. “Panic”, and reminisce about the past: Skateboarding (“roller board” was the official name in the GDR) was their great passion. In many small episodes, the eighties are summoned back to life, a time in which skateboarders were viewed as outsiders and even conspicuously observed. “This ain’t California” tells the story of an anarchistic subculture during socialism.

Let’s face it- Hip-Hop dance has not been a part of the Rwandan Culture in the past. But these Rwandese dancers are ambitioned to change that, and to even use the dance as a tool to self-dependence. With their project called “Hip-Hop for community” they seek to help street children with the theme “the art of helping each other”. In June three Rwandan teams came together to run a five days’ workshop. The Goethe-Institute invites you to an insight into the workshop that took place in Gisenyi, including incredible performances of the Rwandan Hip-Hop dancers as well as a video presentation.

Community Art Work is located at the NIYO Art Gallery and formerly known as “Art with a Mission”. The program began at the Mpore Pefa orphanage in order to teach orphans art skills to support them in their future lives. The exhibition will showcase the work of 40 orphaned children, at the age of 6 to 15. NIYO is very proud to present the work of these very young and talented artists.
