Directed by Claus Drexel (2013) | Original French version with English subtitles, colour, 98 min.

Paris, at night. This is where Jeni, Wenceslas, Christine, Pascal and the others live. Homeless, they haunt the streets and bridges, and corridors of the metro; on the edge of a world where society no longer offers protection. They face us and they talk…

Root Foundation’s Fellowship

When: Wednesday, December 14th
Time: 6 pm to 8 pm
Where: Goethe-Institut
Cost: Free!

Several foreigners provide a voluntary service in Rwanda. It is largely spread to be part of the volunteering culture in any country of the global south all over the world. For volunteers, it is an intercultural learning opportunity with the chance not only to discover a new country and new perspectives while giving but one’s self anew.
Volunteering only makes sense when both involved parties benefit – or at least feel like they benefit. So how does Rwanda effectively profit from foreign volunteers? Is the Volunteering Culture a form of development aid or simply a learning service with hardly any positive outcome for the recipient? Either way, voluntary services are highly demanded by young and open-minded people. In fact, Rwanda hosts many international volunteers. It is necessary to know why volunteers might be important and how difficult but important the right approach is.

NYE Eve Dinner at The Hut

Quiz Night

$

When: Monday, January 2nd
Time: 8 pm to 10 pm
Where: Sol e Luna
Cost: Free!

Quiz night at Sol e Luna might be the highest concentration of white people in one room in Africa. It can be a lot of fun if you’re with a good group of friends and the quiz is well done, or terribly boring if your team is crap and the quiz is dull.

But it’s something to do on a Monday night in Kigali and it can be a great way of getting up to speed on new Kigali arrivals and catching up with old friends you haven’t seen for awhile. If you’ve spent any time at all in Kigali and hang out with expats then you’re likely to know a bunch of quiz participants.

If you don’t know anyone and aren’t shy then you might be able to force yourself onto a team of strangers in an effort to make some new friends.

The winners get their bill paid (including food and drinks) but have to make the quiz the following week. Second place seems to be the place to finish as you get your drinks paid for and don’t have to worry about making next week’s quiz. There’s also usually a small prize for the best team name.

It’s free to play but get there early as tables fill fast.
